Pujol is reputed to be one of the best restaurants in Mexico. It is interesting and creative. I found my last visit much improved from previous visits in that flavors were very subtle and combinations made actual sense. They have a large selection of wines. Although the food and service is excellent, I do not care for the decor, since although appropriately minimalist, its being small and having no windows makes me slightly claustrophobic. Overall though, we had a very good time.

Los Almendros

Today I returned to Los Almendros with Helena Martínez. They still have an excellent cusine, good tequilas and nice ambiance. I tried their traditional lime soup: just perfect. The prices are reasonable. I do not like the TV screens. This is the original entry.

  • Los Almendros Av. Campos Elíseos 164, Col. Polanco. Tel + 52 555 531-6646. Yucatán traditional dishes, such as a refreshing lime soup or frijol con puerco (tender pork pieces with black beans), Especially worth trying is the pescado tikinxic -- white fish in a mild red marinade of achiote seed and juice of bitter orange. I like their mango flambe à la Tequila.

Águila y Sol

Yesterday night we returned to Martha Ortiz Chapa's exquisite restaurant. It just changed premises and the new spaces is just perfect. We had a long dinner plenty of discoveries and enjoying one of the best meals of this year. I like to call your attention to a splendid Duck in Black Mole that was just superb, and the Pumkin flower with curry soup. Presentation was very attractive and amaizing, service good. Make your reservation well-in-advance-

El Bajío

El Bajío. c/Alejandro Dumas 7. Colonia Polanco. Tel +525552818245. México D.F. This one of the new locations of a very famous and claimed Mexican Restaurant. I tried the Empanadas de plátano y frijol, Quesadillas and Mole. Just superb, like in the old times. The experience brought back to me the flavours of my childhood. Prices are correct.

This is a contribution by Isaac Rudomin. It is a MUST

Cúcara Macara

Cúcara Macara, Mexico City Airport. This cantina now belongs to La Mansión. This is my favorite place to have the last tequila before leaving México but yesterday I have a very nice lunch with Gustavo Núñez and Matías Alvarado. The meat is a specialty, excellent tequilas --we had Los Cazadores reserva-- and alos we had one the most appreciated Mexican delicacies: escamloles: are the larvae of ants of the genus Liometopum, harvested from the roots of the agave (tequila) or maguey (mezcal) plant in Mexico. In some forms of Mexican cuisine, escamoles are considered a delicacy and are sometimes referred to as "insect caviar" (from Wikipedia).

I really recommend it. I will be there today, again.
